From: Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia, Tuesday, June 17, 2003 mailto:leftnews@kscm.cz , http://www.kscm.cz Crimes and Hypocrisy of Imperialism at the Start of the 21st Century Anarchy, loss of security, spread of cholera in Southern Iraq, insufficiency of medicine, food, water and electricity, continuing destruction of state property and political vacuum, introduces the main characteristics of life in occupied Iraq. At a time when Iraqis need the formation of a temporary government which would encompass all proprietary forces in Iraq and which would prepare a democratic election and contribute towards the solution of the problems arising from the results of the war, the commanders of the Pentagon, which plans a long-term occupation of Iraq, not only does not hurry to the solution of these problems, but manifestly avoids them with the logic that, the greater the devastation of Iraq, the more will be the profits to be realized by American companies which will get contracts for its reconstruction,. The well-known American company, Bechtel, which is close to the American administration, was awarded a contract for the reconstruction of the infrastructure of Iraq for over 680 million dollars, and that without submitting any bid. With the same method the Halliburton company, which is headed by Vice President D. Cheney of the U.S., was awarded a contract of over 7 billion dollars. Americans in Iraq behave as though Iraqis were unable to manage their own affairs, for they began to name an American management for every enterprise or institution, by no means on the basis of expertise, but on the basis of allegiance and citizenship. The oil pipe line which leads from Iraq across Syria to the Mediterranean they shut off and declared that Iraq may leave the Organization of Oil Producing and Exporting Countries, (O.P.E.C.). At the same time they want to draw up a plan for Iraqi Constitution which the Iraqis must accept. During the war the Americans destroyed 800 Iraqi factories which before the war were controlled by parties of UN inspectors, who declared that there were no signs of production or storage of weapons of mass destruction. The Americans, who, during the war fired nearly 1,000 rockets per day at Iraq, and whose aircraft attacked chosen targets on the average `1400 times daily, killed around 13,000 Iraqis, mostly children, old people and women, wounded and froze several times more people. The Americans, who during the year 1991, used bombs with depleted uranium, prohibited, in the framework of the embargo imposed on the Iraqi people, the export of the equipment necessary for the detection of uranium in the body. The depleted uranium leads to similar results in society and in nature as those known from the use of atomic bombs. Today, there are among the Iraqi children very widespread examples of bodily deformities and blood cancers. Medicines for these sinister diseases were among the medicines whose export was forbidden in the framework of the embargo. It is not enough for Americans to plunder and destroy museums, but also the nuclear objects with which they threaten to leave Iraq with nuclear poisoning. The Geneva Convention, which oblige occupants of an occupied country with a guarantee of law and order and security, is manifestly of no interest to the U. S. In only the years from 1998 to 2000, 36,000 overflights were recorded. That bombardment was never included in the framework of the U.N.mandate. The USA, which led a preventive war against the Iraqi people under the pretext that Iraq used weapons of mass destruction, today, and in the occupation of that country, did not produce any tangible evidence for that war. On the other hand, even if the regime of Saddam Hussein no longer exists, it does not appear that the American troops are beginning to pack their bags and leave the Iraqis to live in "freedom and democracy" The reverse is true. The world is witness to the killing of Iraqi demonstrators for that freedom and democracy. After the occupation and systematic destruction of Iraq, they explain the continuation of their presence in the country by the need for reconstruction of Iraq with Iraq's money, which guarantees fat profits for American companies. Finally they even say publicly that they have the intention to form, by the year 2010, a Free Trade Area which will include Iraq, Turkey, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, Yemen, Oman, Egypt, Israel, and the U.S.A... This plan will benefit not only the political and economic interests of the USA, but also Israel, in that very rich and strategic region. It is logical that those who will agree with this plan will not have difficulties with the United States. Those who would "make problems" would have no guarantee that there would not be found useful reasons, and means, for their crushing. At any time the world will forget, that it is about the "war on terrorism", and American policy will be in isolation "by chance" Al-Kayda comes up and takes car of reminding, as it was in Riyad and Casablanca. The Iraqi Communist Party calls, to get over the difficulties of the critical political, economic and social situation in Iraq, that there be organizing a National Conference, whose participants would be representatives of political parties, and religious circles, of the North, South and Central areas and from exile, and that there must be at that Conference a guaranteed presumption for the expression of free will. Bush, who believed that the military victory in Iraq was sufficient to control the country, today has hit stiff resistance, for the present it is a political resistance of the Iraqi people, and he is obliged to strengthen the occupying units from the side of new members of NATO and with the order of experienced American units from Macedonia and Afghanistan, who may partially compensate for the European units quickly scattered !!!
