THE PARTY OF LABOUR Tel: +90 212 588 43 32-38 Fax: 588 43 41 E-mail: info@emep.org November 30, 2002 No To War Against Iraq The preparations of the US and its allies for an attack towards Iraq are continuing. Even the fact that Iraq has opened its country to the arms inspectors has not detained the US and allies. Workers, labourers and progressive forces all around the World are organizing manifestations and demonstrations protesting the aggressive policy of US imperialism. In Istanbul, a platform formed by the coming together of more than a hundred organizations has decided to hold a ěNo to War Against Iraqî manifestation on 1st of December. Among the organizations arranging and participating in the manifestation are such worker and labourer organizations as the Confederation of Workers Unions of Turkey (Turk- Is), Confederation of Revolutionary Workers Unions (DISK), Confederation of Public Employees Union (KESK), Union of Architects and Engineers Associations of Turkey (TMMOB), Union of Doctors of Turkey (TTB) and political parties such as The Party of Labour (EMEP), Peoplesí Democracy Party (HADEP), Socialist Democracy Party (SDP), Freedom and Solidarity Party (ODP), Communist Party of Turkey (TKP). The political parties, HADEP, DEHAP, EMEP and SDP, that have entered the November 3 elections under the name of the ěLabour, Peace and Democracy Blocî will also be participating in the 1 December Manifestation behind the banner of the Bloc. It has been decided that demonstrations and manifestations be arranged on 1st of December in other provinces of Turkey, beginning with Izmir (the third largest province of Turkey positioned in the Aegean region), following the preparations for the 1st of December manifestation in Istanbul and with the initiative of the organizations arranging the Istanbul demonstration. Our Party is aware of the fact that, similar to the rest of the peoples of the World, the people of Turkey are opposed to the aggressiveness of US imperialism and neither do they want or approve of a war against Iraq. Hence our call has been to all the workers, labourers, advanced youth to participate in the 1 December manifestation in order to protest the war policies of US imperialism and allies and to warn the political power about Turkey not being dragged into this war.
