Korean Central News Agency November.20.2002 U.S. arrogant practice under fire Pyongyang, November 19 (KCNA) -- Several organizations of South Korea strongly protested against the U.S. arrogant obstruction to the mine clearing in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) for the projects of reconnecting the rail and road links between the north and south of Korea. The headquarters of the movement for a land free from U.S. Forces bases of the Democratic Workers' Party called a press conference in front of the U.S. 8th army command on Nov. 15 to denounce the U.S. Forces. The participants said that the U.S. unwarranted interference in such a quite natural process as a mutual mine verification procedure between the north and the south is aimed to hinder the projects of reconnecting the rail and road links between the south and the north, scuttle the process of inter-Korean reconciliation and vitiate the atmosphere for reunification. They urged the U.S. Forces to immediately stop obstructing the reconnection of rail and road links. The council of measures against anti-personnel mine grouping more than 20 civic organizations including the National Alliance for Democracy and Reunification, the Reunification Council of the Citizens' Federation of Economic Justice and the Environment Movement Association issued a statement on Nov. 14 The statement warned that if the U.S. does not remove the obstacles to mine clearing in the DMZ while ignoring the inter-Korean agreement for military guarantee the Korean nation will once again react to the U.S. arbitrary practice for hegemony with strong resistance. The south headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country's Reunification also issued a statement on the same day. It demanded the U.S. chiefly responsible for Korea's division stop mocking at the Koreans' destiny, lording it over South Korea.
